Our tech world has been inundated with the buzz word "AI" Artificial Intelligence. Before 2024, AI was just a future innovation discussion. But now, the tech world can't function without it. When used for the right reason, AI can increase the success of a business, assist with writing papers, books and business proposals. But there is another significant need that so many of us fall short on. It's called EI (Emotional Intelligence).

According to Webster dictionary, "Emotional Intelligence (often called EQ or EI) is the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and use emotions effectively—both your own and those of others."

It’s more than just “being nice” or “sensitive. EI is an interpersonal skill set that help with navigating relationships, make wise decisions under pressure, and lead with empathy."

Look...I'm still trying to understand how a human being can deliberately cause harm to another human being. Or how a teammate can fix their mouth to "spit" on another teammate. I feel like Marvin Gaye, "What’s Going On?" We are humans, God's unique creatures. So, my only answer to my question is we lack EI.

Key benefits of engaging our EI:

  • EI helps us to notice when our feelings go into defense mode in a meeting and cause us to pause before responding.

  • EI helps with managing impulses and staying calm under stress.

  • EI empowers us to adapt to change without losing focus.

  • EI fosters empathy to assist with understanding and sharing the feelings of others.

  • EI helps us to read nonverbal cues and respond appropriately.

  • EI allows us to sense discouragement in a team member and offer encouragement.

In Ministry: EI helps us shepherd people with both truth and grace, discern unspoken needs, and maintain unity.

Can you imagine what kind of world we would have if we would engage our EI as much as we utilized AI?

  • There would be a decrease in divorces and painful relationships.

  • Child abandonment and abuse would decrease.

  • Gun violence in schools, churches and workplaces will decrease.

  • There would be less suicides.

Let's turn our world around by engaging our Emotional Intelligence (EI). The world will be a better place to live.

For His glory...
