(This poem was written in the memory of my mother, Mrs. Melba “Doll” Brown)
I want to encourage to all mothers who feel like you have failed at motherhood. In God’s eyes, you are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. I pray that you will commit to attending a place of worship this Sunday and lay all your cares, concerns, and past mistakes at the feet of Jesus — because God Finds Beauty in the Weeds of Life.
Listen, My Sister…
I took a walk today — just me, the breeze, and creation breathing around me. Birds were singing like a choir warming up, geese were writing cursive across the sky, and squirrels were running their little errands — gathering, storing, hiding blessings for another season.
And then I saw it! Weeds. Everywhere. Tall, tangled, stubborn weeds that grew wild after the rain. But right in the middle of the mess of weeds… right in the middle of what looked overgrown, overlooked, and unwanted… stood beautiful wild daisies. Bright. Bold. Beautiful. Placed so perfectly it looked like God Himself had dropped each seed by hand.
I thought about this passage from the Bible: “All of us like sheep have gone astray; each of us has turned to our own way. But the Lord has laid on HIM the iniquity of us all. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness; the punishment for our wellbeing fell on Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:6–7)
If we were honest, we would admit that we’ve had some weeds in our life. We made choices that almost choked the life out of us. We traveled paths that pulled us into the ditch of destruction. We had seasons where we wandered so far off course, we forgot where home was. We weren’t lost — we chose to leave the divine path God placed before us. But then… grace stepped into the middle of our weeds.
Isaiah said, “But the Lord has laid on HIM the iniquity of us all…” Meaning — Jesus walked into the overgrown weeds of our life and carried our mess. He took the weight of it all. Jesus was wounded for our mess so that we could bloom again. He was crushed so that we could rise again. The punishment He bore was so that we could breathe and live again. And because of ALL He did, we can declare that we are healed. Healed in the places we try to hide. Healed in the places that were broken. Healed in the places we thought were too far gone.
So, when I saw the wild daisies in the weeds, I saw more than flowers — I saw mercy. I saw God’s intentional grace. It reminded me that we have a Savior who steps into the wild places and plants beauty where sin once grew. That’s just what Jesus does…
He turns wandering sheep into welcomed children. He turns tangled hearts into testimonies. He turns weed‑covered lives into gardens of grace. And if He can make daisies bloom in the middle of weeds… If God can bring beauty from ashes…He can make healing bloom in you.
For His glory….
Happy Mother’s Day to All Mothers!
