"Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:6-7).
The believers in 1 Peter were suffering persecution because of their faith in Christ. Peter addressed the spiritual tension that caused them to drift from their faith. Sometimes suffering can cause the strongest believer to drift away from their faith which soon leads to arrogance and independence from God. If we stray away too far, we begin to blame God for the suffering. What better person to encourage believers to remain faithful despite hard times? Peter denied knowing Jesus on the night of His arrest. Peter went back fishing, after Jesus was crucified. So, I believe that Peter is an expert on the subject of "displaying humility in hard times."
Peter wrote these words to the believers, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." Ok...Peter...what does it look like for me to "humble myself under the mighty hand of God"?
Being humble before God involves:
Accepting God's wisdom even if it doesn't make sense.
Embrace the unexpected twist and turns of life.
Cast ALL your anxieties on Him.
Behind all of our suffering experiences stands God's purpose. There is a call for believers to display humility in the midst of hardship. It requires us to relinquish control because God's "mighty" hand orchestrates every area of our life. Humility in hardship is not silent defeat, but it is worship in motion. It’s choosing gratitude while walking through the fire. It’s praising God not because the situation is good, but because He is good in the situation. Therefore, while we are "going THROUGH" we can do it with a spirit of thanksgiving and praise.
For His glory...
