The only time you should apologize for speaking the truth is if you speak it without compassion and love. I was told by a very wise professor, "Speaking truth without compassion is bitterness. But speaking truth in love is healing for the soul."
Always check your heart before confronting a challenging situation. Many times we speak from our emotions instead of our heart. But if you develop a heart of integrity, you will be motivated to speak truth with love and compassion. "A gentle response defuses anger, but a sharp tongue kindles a temper-fire (Proverbs 15:1).
Tips on effective confrontation:
Pray before you speak.
Relinquish your hidden agendas.
Allow each other to speak without interrupting.
Be specific about your concerns with compassion.
Remember...the purpose for the confrontation is not to win or lose, but it’s to gain understanding and develop a resolution.
Agree to disagree.
End with prayer.
8. Ask yourself would God be pleased with your attitude.
For His glory...
